Video: Jesse Pinkman’s “Bitch” catalog
Every show or character needs a catchphrase or a word that they make popular. Just this morning I read an article featuring Joey Lawrence and in it he explained how his character’s signature ‘Whoa!” on ‘Blossom’ came to be. Other ’90s examples include “You got it, dude!” and, “How rude?!” from ‘Full House’ and, “Did I do that?” from ‘Family Matters’.
A more recent example of a popular catchphrase is “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose,” from ‘Friday Night Lights’. The phrase, used by Coach Eric Taylor and his football teams across the great state of Texas (and Philly), has become a mantra for fans around the world. Its uplifting spirit and message have come to mean something deeper in pop culture history than just a television catchphrase.
I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention Tami Taylor’s one-woman campaign to bring back the use of y’all in every day speech. And while I do love a good y’all here on this website, there’s another show that I owe my own colloquial habits to, and that show is ‘Breaking Bad’.
In the above video you can see (nearly?) every instance of Jesse Pinkman’s signature use of the word “bitch.” And while I’ve been known to sling the word around a time or two, the word I use most often because of Jesse is actually “yo,” something friends and family find completely annoying. So if you need me, I’ll be scouring the interwebs searching for that video.
